Sue completed the 5-Week CICO Challenge.

For 5 weeks, she entered 3 numbers into this app: her weight in the morning, the calories she consumed the previous day, and calories she burned the previous day.

She used a separate app to calculate her calories-in and a smart watch to calculate calories-out.

Her starting weight was 148.2 pounds.

Her goal was to lose 5 pounds by averaging a 500 calorie/day deficit.

Sue exceeded her goal! She lost 6.6 pounds!

Her results aren't unusual. When you first begin dieting, you often lose water weight in addition to losing fat.

The red line is Sue's predicted weight based on her actual calorie balance. As you can see, Sue didn't quite reach her goal of averaging a 500 calorie/day deficit, but she still exceeded her weight loss goal.

An interesting note: Sue started taking prednisone on Day 7. You can see the impact it had on her actual weight for the next week. Sue didn't give up... she stuck to the plan. As soon as she stopped taking prednisone, the extra weight came off.

Remember: if you consistently consume fewer calories than you burn, your weight will decrease over time.
